Optimise your English for business . . .

Conversation practice

This is the core of my work and allows my clients to have continuous and regular exposure to English. The process of communication is critical in the modern business world and my objective is to focus on building confidence and further developing your business English language skills. With one-to-one online lessons, this is now a reality, no matter where you are.

My clients have all told me that this manner of learning has boosted their speaking confidence more than any other course they have been on. I have recently added vocabulary learning tools to the lessons focusing on the essential and effective vocabulary that clients require in the business world. It is always great to get feedback from a client when they have started using new vocabulary in their discussions.

I make brief notes after every lesson so that we can continue with the thread of a particular conversion or discuss certain topics in the future to assist the conversational process. I understand the challenges of learning a second language from my own experience. It is all great for a month or two after the training, but without regular ongoing exposure to the target language, a lot of the skills acquired are quickly lost.

TARIFF: My standard rate for all online conversation practice work is EUR 60,00 per 60-minute lesson which includes all resources I use for the lesson (vocabulary lists, etc.) but excludes any local country value-added tax or sales tax.

Presentation preparation

More and more clients have been requesting help with the preparation of a presentation they have to give in English. Of course, the focus is on perfecting the delivery and making sure that the presentation content is clear and understandable for the target audience.

I have found that these lessons also delve into the magic of how to effectively use PowerPoint and in this regard, I am happy to assist my clients. There is no set structure for these lessons, and every assignment is different. Using role-play is very beneficial, checking presentations for language errors, discussing your objectives for the presentation, and the dynamics of the audience are all things that I have covered with my clients.

These assignments need not be limited to presentations, they could also be preparation for a client visit, an international business trip, or a business negotiation.

Please note, there are times when this type of assignment might require extra research or preparation time, for example, checking a presentation for language errors, etc. In these cases, I may need to levy an additional charge over and above the standard lesson time.  However, this would only be after prior discussion and mutual agreement.

TARIFF: My standard rate for a 60-minute online lesson is EUR 60,00 (excluding any local country valued added tax or sales tax and/or additional expenses relating to checking presentation material, etc. – see above.)

Specialist vocabulary

Almost every industry has its own jargon and unique vocabulary. This is a challenge in your own language but adds an extra level of complexity to the second language learning process. There are no magical solutions for this to date (maybe A.I. chat Bots will help in the future). However, I have had experience in the logistics, chemical, financial, and manufacturing industries. The internet is also a great resource and often a bit of extra research can yield some great results. These assignments are very much on a case-by-case basis and may require some additional chargeable time for ad-hoc research and learning material preparation.

However, most things are possible, and I am always open to discussing these types of assignments and finding mutually acceptable solutions.

TARIFF: My standard rate for a 60-minute online lesson is EUR 60,00 (this excludes any local country value-added tax or sales tax and/or additional expenses relating to research and the preparation of special material, etc. – as mentioned).

THE Answers TO SOME

Frequently asked questions:

Not really, although this is something I can help with, my focus is on business English and helping people in the business world who need to use English for their work.

This depends on the requirement.  At the moment, most of my clients require conversational practice and we have found that a one-hour lesson every two weeks works well.  However, if you are preparing for a presentation that is two weeks away, a period of intense lessons over the two weeks might be a better idea.  Also, we might be having lessons every two weeks, but you know you have an important meeting coming up and you would like some extra practice beforehand.  This is also possible. This flexibility is something I am always willing to discuss and help with.  Frequency is determined by requirement.  As a guideline, a lesson every two weeks is a good solution.  Having a lesson once a month generally has little benefit.

No, my experience in the last 10-plus years is that very few of my clients have the time available to complete homework.  This is a personal choice.  I am always able you some learning tips if you have the desire, motivation and time available for some extra exposure to English.

My standard rate for a one-hour online lesson is EUR 60,00 (excluding any local country value-added tax or sales tax *).  This price covers all the resources that I may use in a lesson, such as a vocabulary learning module, making lesson notes, etc.  If you have a special assignment, which requires some extra time for research (specialist vocabulary) or I need to check content/spelling for a presentation, etc. I may need to charge for this extra time.  However, this will always be discussed in advance and will only be with mutual consent.

* For the Netherlands I am registered with the country’s trade body, and I don’t need to charge BTW. For Germany, VAT is also not applicable for educational purposes.

Really there are no limitations to this, the lessons are online and if you have a stable internet connection and a PC or laptop, we are good to go.  I have even completed a lesson via mobile phone, but it is not the best solution.  I use Microsoft TEAMS for all my online lessons. The only other thing to discuss might be time zone differences.
